On Feb 22, 2015, the Philippine Heart Association (PHA) will hold the annual Heart Month Celebration in Iloilo City, with program and activities aimed at creating awareness on the primary care and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
The venue for this main national event will be the bustling city of Iloilo, in cooperation with the PHA Western Visayas-Panay Chapter. Similar activities will, however, simultaneously take place in the eight other PHA chapters nationwide. The formal program in Iloilo City will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Ateneo de Iloilo grounds.
The theme will be "Jumpstart your Heart 5-2-1-0-0". This summarizes the advocacy campaign for kids to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, only 2 hours of screen time, do 1 hour of exercise, 0 intake of soda and other sugar-sweetened drinks, and 0 smoking.
There will be a Heart Fair where both young and adult participants will have the chance to visit the various pharma-sponsored booths that will offer an array of screening services e.g. cholesterol and sugar levels, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and heart rate monitoring, waist circumference measurement, ECG recording, etc. There will also be lectures on healthy lifestyle and cardiopulmonary resuscitation demonstration and mass Zumba dancing.
